So pleased with this limited edition of 12 hand-stitched embroidery artworks which I just finalised and will be soon available to pre-order together with my photobook as part of my upcoming Solo Show at Reminders Photography Stronghold in Tokyo!
This is a special edition which is specifically produced as part of the launch of my book in Japan and is available for a limited time from now and throughout the duration of the exhibition!
Edition of 12
10x15cm, Archival Image, Japan, 1956
Organza Fabric with integrated hand-stitched embroidery
The final archival embroidery artworks of this ‘unknown to me’ Japanese woman, ex-lover of my father, encountered through his archive, are hand-stitched by me and my mother as the images are posted between Athens and Melbourne, and once delivered we both proceed in continuing from each other’s ongoing embroidery act. In the process of speaking about death in my work as a passage through time and memory in the archive, this folding and thickening of language deriving both from the material form of the textile and the mutual act of embroidering, permits me to explore how the mourning process enables a creative relation to the object. As a result, a language of thought that is spoken elliptically has emerged becoming the mark of a fragmentary dialogue with the endless tracing of loss.
The exhibition opens on the 20th of August
Opening Artist Talk: 23rd of August, 19:00
Talk Event ‘Photographers talk about publishing photobooks’ Guest Speakers: Ioan na Sakellaraki, Yusuke Takagi, Moe Suzuki : 27th of August 19:00
So much looking forward to being in Tokyo in person soon!
