Fulbright Award Ceremony at Americal School of Classical Studies at Athens

It has been two weeks since I returned from Australia and I have been deeply moved by the warmth of coming home, reconnecting with family and celebrating my Fulbright Fellowship Award at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens last week. So many of the milestones and challenges of recent years unfolded far from the people I cherish most which made this meaningful!

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is the U.S. government’s premier international exchange initiative, designed to promote mutual understanding between nations. It supports students, scholars, teachers and professionals in pursuing academic and creative work abroad. During last week’s Annual Award Ceremony, we had the opportunity to celebrate both Greek and American Grantees and it has been an honour meeting everyone and connecting in person! This year’s cohort spans a remarkable range of disciplines, from neurobiology and biomedical engineering to robotics, medical informatics and cancer epigenetics. I am profoundly honored to be the sole artist researcher selected in this round.

My upcoming Art Fellowship funded by Fulbright will take place at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History Archives Center in Washington, D.C. During the 5-month period, I will work with glass stereograph collections to reflect on the theoretical, critical and material disposition of the fragment in Greek antiquity for the realization of a series of artworks in the intersection of photography, collage and installation art. You can read more about my project here

A heartfelt thank you to the esteemed jury and board and congratulations to everyone embarking on this exciting journey! I cannot wait for it all to begin this coming January!
