Seafaring Traces: Fragments of Fathers on trigger FOMU: Ocean

I am glad to be part of “Seafaring Traces: Fragments of Fathers,” a conversation and feature written and moderated by Elena Musetti alongside artists Kasia Molga and Katalin Száraz Davies, now published on trigger FOMU.

In this dialogue, we reflect on our photographic practices in relation to the maritime traces left by our fathers—a body of materials moving among logbooks, letters, photographs, diaries, and inherited objects, hovering between document and residue.

Our persepctives thoughtfully explore the specificity of seafaring labor: a working life structured by long absences, contracts at sea and repeated departures and returns. For our families, fatherhood was often lived at a distance, shaped by rotation rather than continuity, leaving behind personal archives that had to be pieced together later. Across our different practices, photography emerges as a recurring point of contact—handled, revisited, and reworked to interrogate how these traces circulate between lived experience and reconstruction.

Thank you for bringing our practices together in such a meaningful reflection. You can read the full article here
